Mombasa County

Mombasa is the 2nd largest city in Kenya. Its capital is the only city on the Kenyan coast. Its rich historical sites, beaches, and hotel resorts make Mombasa a favorite tourist destination.


It is governed by H.E. Salim Mvurya, who is deputized by Fatuma Achani. With an area of 8,270 sq. Km, Kwale has a population of 866, 820 people (2019 census). As an inland county, the largest town in Kwale County is Ukunda.

H.E Issa Abdalla Issa Timamy is the Governor of Lu County, which comprises of two sub-counties, Lamu West and East. As a county, Lamu has a total population of 143, 920 people over a total area of around, 6,500 sq. Km.

There is constant human/ wildlife conflict in the county. The increasing population of people has led to encroachment into land conserved for wildlife. Taita Wildlife Conservancy and Tsavo National Parks take up almost 70% of land under the county government.

Other than the areas preserved for wildlife, the government has put up restrictive measures on indigenous forests on 48 hilltops in the county. They form part of the Eastern Arc Range of Forests.
