Ryden’s success is closed due to the values instilled by its founder, Iain Illingworth, who placed great importance to personal integrity, prompt and efficient service, and a personalized approach to the business. We are dedicated to a standard of values that promote honesty, trust, and openness. We aim to be dependable and consistent in all our dealings.
In 1995 Iain Illingworth moved to Kenya, qualifying as a Member of the Institution of Surveyors of Kenya and as a Registered Valuer, and joining and eventually acquiring the firm of Ryden International, based in Nairobi. With a degree in Land Economics, Iain had worked as a Chartered Surveyor for over 31 years, first with Strutt & Parker in Scotland, and thereafter with the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB), as their Scottish Land Agent.
As Managing Director, between the years 2000 – July 2015, Iain oversaw tremendous growth in the company undertaking property valuations in East Africa, including farms, commercial and residential property. He also guided the expansion of the real estate agency function of the firm, and Ryden International has now become one of Kenya’s most respected Estate Agency firm in Kenya.

Jasmin Kranebitter left a 1 star Google review and said, “STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY AT ALL COSTS! This is the worst real estate company my family ever worked with. The managing director Rose Thogo is not committed to customer service at all. This company does not bother to give you a good experience, no matter whether your intentions are to sell or to buy. My family has been looking to buy high-value properties and Ryden could not care less. We have mainly dealt with Rose and her way of doing business is a disgrace. We have gone through this experience three times now and shame on us for not learning sooner and still expecting an ounce of customer care. She was made aware that we have to travel internationally to view the properties that she suggested. She was also made aware of the exact dates we would be in Kenya well in advance. However, she was not bothered at all to respond to any emails a couple of weeks prior to our visit. So we ended up travelling to Kenya without even knowing if any viewing arrangements had been made and if it would even be possible to view all the properties we were interested in. On the day of our arrival we had to make multiple phone calls to get Rose to set up viewing appointments for us immediately. As a result, it was all a mess and without good local connections it would have been absolutely impossible for us to conduct any of the viewings. Rose did not prepare anything and we were left completely alone to figure everything out by ourselves. Funny enough, after the viewings Rose has always been very eager to get in touch in hopes of getting a commission. This is seriously all she cares about. I am personally so disgusted by this company, that I’d rather not buy anything that’s been advertised by them. We also spoke to a couple of real estate owners about our bad experience with Ryden Kenya, and we heard lots of stories of people being very unsatisfied with the amount of care Ryden puts into selling their properties. If you value your time and money and if you expect good customer service, do not repeat our mistakes and DO NOT DEAL WITH RYDEN KENYA.”
